Make
reservations! Be on time! Cancel if you change your mind!
Making
a reservations allows both the performer and the cabaret staff to
prepare adequately for the show. When there are few reservations,
the performer can adjust the show for a small group - and if the room
will be packed, adjustments can be made as well. Same goes for the
wait staff. A small reservation list means someone may be able to
take the night off. A large list gives the club time to add extra
staff members to the shift. And for those at the show, service and
performance is best for all. Everyone wins!
But
I have been to shows where there were 8 reservations and 42 people
showed up! The staff was not prepared, the show started late because
seating had to be rearranged and there were not enough staff to mix,
pour and serve all the first drinks before the room went dark for
the show. Everyone lost out, including the performer who had to hurry
through his show since there was another cabaret show booked in the
same room after his show was done.
Arriving
on time is not just good manners, but it assures you that you will
get that seat you reserved. You see, many popular shows have waiting
lists - folks who tried to make reservations after the room was fully
booked. There is always about a 10% no-show rate, and when showtime
arrives, any seats not filled are given to folks on the waiting list
- the assumption is that the folks not there aren't coming. So, if
you arrive five minutes late, your seat may be filled and you may
be turned away.
And
cancelling if you change your mind is more than good manners - it
permits the club to fill your seat with folks making a late reservation,
or arriving without a reservation. Remember, neither the performer
nor the club can make any money with an empty seat!
