ANDREW WEST, MUSICIAN, 20
Pianist/entertainer Andrew
West died suddenly on Friday, April 20th due to complications from
diabetes as a result of influenza. He was 20 years old.
At the time of his passing,
he was working as a keyboardist with Ringling Bros. & Barnum & Bailey
Circus in Philadelphia. He was with the circus when they played New
York's Madison Square Garden recently. The Saturday night performance
in Philadelphia was dedicated to him.
West had become a popular
fixture on the piano bar circuit in Manhattan. He was a regular pianist
at Don't Tell Mama where he often played four-handed piano with Bobby
Peaco. He also worked at The Duplex and Rose's Turn. He frequently
entertained the crowds while the regular pianist was on a break at
various clubs. A member of the Society of American Magicians, Mr.
West had appeared with in the late Bob McAllister's show, as well
as part of the David Copperfield show.
A private funeral took
place on April 25th. Andrew West's memorial will be held Wednesday,
May 16th at 2:00 pm sharp at ST. PETER'S CHURCH (Lexington Avenue
@ 54th Street, NYC). It would have been Andrew's 21st birthday. There
will be a speaking/performing time, limited to the first hour or so,
followed by a reception which will end promptly at 4:00 pm. The family
has requested that this be more of a celebration of Andrew's life
than a memorial.
