CABARET NEWS - NEW YORK CITY

TIERNEY SUTTON & SHELLY BERG FOR ONE WEEK ONLY AT OAK ROOM
Multiple Grammy nominated vocalist Tierney Sutton and jazz pianist supreme Shelly Berg combine forces with THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-419-9331 - http://www.algonquinhotel.com/ ) audiences for a magical week of offerings from "The Great American Treasure Chest" for one week only, Tuesday through Saturday, January 29th through February 2nd. Members of the audience will pick songs from containers placed throughout the Oak Room for Tierney and Shelly to perform ... classic jazz numbers ... Broadway show-stoppers ... great romantic ballads. Although numbers associated with Tierney and Shelly will bracket the show, each evening will be unique and spontaneous. Showtimes are Wednesday through Saturday at 9:00 pm with late shows Friday & Saturday at 11:30 pm.

Tierney has performed at the Oak Room with her band, but Shelly is her favorite pianist 'as a duo.' A semifinalist in the 1998 Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition, Tierney released her first album in 1999, Introducing Tierney Sutton, earning her a reputation as one of the most important innovative performers on today's jazz scene. Each successive CD, Unsung Heroes, Blue in Green (a Bill Evans tribute), Something Cool, Dancing in the Dark (Sinatrainspired), I'm with the Band and On the Other Side have brought continued acclaim.

Pianist, composer, arranger and educator, Shelly Berg brings an extraordinary array of talents to the contemporary music scene. He is renowned for his concert and recording collaborations with vocalists Bobby McFerrin, Kurt Elling, Dionne Warwick, Lorraine Feather and Tierney Sutton, among others. The holder of numerous awards as a music educator, Shelly is Dean of the University of Miami Frost School of Music. His compositions and orchestrations for television include CBS's "A League of Their Own," ABC's "Fudge," and HBO'S "Dennis Miller Live;" and for film, Warner's Almost Heroes and For Your Consideration and Fox's Men of Honor. He has written for the Royal Philharmonic and the American Symphony, composed the theme song for the 1986 U.S. Olympic Festival, and has published numerous music texts.
