SOPHIA BILIDES CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY IN SONG
In celebration of International Women's Day, acclaimed vocalist Sophia
Bilides brings her show "BROADLY SPEAKING: Women Of The American Songbook"
to the SPIEGEL ROOM, BLACKSMITH HOUSE (56 Brattle Street, Cambridge,
MA - 617-547-6789) on Saturday, March 8th at 8:00 pm. She will be accompanied
by Doug Hammer on piano.
The show will be an evening of songs from a female point
of view, by Lynn Ahrens, Marilyn Bergman, Francesca Blumenthal, Judy
Collins, Betty Comden, Meredith d'Ambrosio, Dorothy Fields, Doris
Fisher, Babbie Green, Carol Hall, Nancy Hamilton, Marcy Heisler, Carole
King, Fran Landesman, Christine Lavin, Carolyn Leigh, Amanda McBroom,
Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, Krisanthi Pappas, Dorothy Parker, and more.
Bilides is the 2005 IRNE Award Winner for Best Female
Cabaret Performer (Independent Reviewers Of New England), and a 2007
MAC Award Nominee (Manhattan Association Of Cabarets And Clubs). She
appears regularly at Scullers Jazz Club in Boston, where her name
is frequently listed in annual Best Of Boston reviews, and has also
performed at Danny's Skylight Room in New York, The Regattabar in
Cambridge, New York's Lincoln Center For The Performing Arts, and
other venues. Her shows include tributes to the songs of Comden &
Green, Carolyn Leigh, and Cole Porter, as well as seasonal celebrations.
She is currently working on her second CD, a collection
by contemporary songwriters.
