Songs like
"Here's That Rainy Day'," "Pennies From Heaven," "But Beautiful,"
"Misty," "Swinging on a Star" and a surprise or two will be included.
Mary weaves the intimate stories of their life together throughout
the show. This personal connection with one of America's greatest
lyricists makes this show tremendously entertaining and absolutely
unique!
Mary began
her career at the very young age of nine in classical ballet and later
switched to performing in the legitimate theatre, quickly rising from
chorus to principal. Some of the major musical productions she appeared
in were, The Red Mill, Kismet, the National tour of The Music Man,
(Forrest Tucker), Los Angeles Civic Light Opera production of Annie
Get Your Gun, (Mary Martin), and the original Broadway productions
of Bye, Bye, Bye Birdie (Dick Van Dyke), Kean (Alfred Drake), The
Sound of Music (opposite Jon Voight) and Donnybrook (Eddie Foy Jr.).
It was in this production that Ms. Burke met and married the show's
famed composer/lyricist, Johnny Burke.
Through Mr.
Burke's encouragement and guidance she pursued a singing career, eventually
starring in her own nightclub act at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
This led her to appearing as Wayne Newton's featured guest on national
television and lead singer for several big bands. She also appeared
on The Ed Sullivan Show and the Mike Douglas Show. More recently,
she performed cabaret shows at the Landmark Club in Connecticut and
several times at the prestigious METROPOLITAN ROOM in New York City
and also appeared as a guest artist with the illustrious New York
Pops at Carnegie Hall.
Ms. Burke
co-produced the Broadway musical, Swinging On A Star, which featured
many songs written by Johnny Burke and received a Tony nomination
for Best Musical.
