JUDY BARNETT LAUNCHES NEW CD AT DILLON'S

Audiences who enjoy the performances of the jazz singer Judy Barnett, with all of her fiery musicality, passion and devilish humor, will be rewarded once again as she and a fabulous 12-piece band unleash her own songs. Ms. Barnett has put together some of her work on a new CD, "The Road To My Heart." Ms. Barnett's music will be launched at the equally new venue The Backroom at DILLON'S (245 West 54th Street, NYC - 212-307-9797), beginning with a CD celebration on Wednesday, October 8th at 8:00 pm, followed by a reception. Further performances on Friday, October 17th and 24th at 8:30 pm. Tickets are $20.00 (cash only) at the door with a $10.00 food/drink minimum.

"The Road To My Heart" is an eclectic compilation of her songs with flavors ranging from jazz to samba to soulful ballads to country to calypso. Barnett has always been about rhythm, whether playing percussion in steel and reggae bands or swinging jazz standards. For these shows, Ms. Barnett will be playing guitar as well as singing. Noted for her phrasing, ease of delivery and clear delight in her work, she brings to her original songs all the passion evident in her performance of the jazz standards for which she is better known.

Judy Barnett's extensive musical resume is well known by those who follow the New York music scene, where she has been a presence for almost 20 years. The recipient of six MAC Jazz Vocalist Awards, a Back Stage Bistro Award, and eight ASCAP Special Awards for her songwriting, Ms. Barnett has also made Time Out New York's Critic's Picks List in virtually every venue she has appeared.

In addition to singing professionally since the age of 14, Judy Barnett has also worked as an actor and director in theater. She owned and operated the jazz club/restaurant "J's", which opened in 1985 and ran for almost a decade. It is still thought of as one of NYC's finest jazz venues. Her jazz CDs have received national airplay and much critical acclaim, as has her live performance. Her most recent CD, "Swingin¬" is out on the Slider Music jazz label.

Ms. Barnett most recently performed in NYC in "Mikey Writes It," a show of original music by Michael Holland. She has recorded The Beatles¬ song "Blackbird," (joined by Michael Holland), which is included on Jamie deRoy's new album, "Jamie deRoy & Friends, Volume V," due out in November. Prior to her upcoming gigs at Dillon's, Ms. Barnett will be appearing in a benefit on September 22nd for the Arts Program of the West 86th Street Church, along with KT Sullivan, Mark Nadler and others, and with her fabulous trio at the Swing Street Festival on West 52nd Street and Sixth Avenue on October 4th, from 12:30-5:00 pm.
