Karen Oberlin's New CD, "Secret Love: The Music of Doris Day," To Be Extended at Danny's

Winner of the 2002 Back Stage Bistro Award for Outstanding Vocalist Extended 2 Additional Weeks

Karen Oberlin's new CD, "Secret Love: The Music of Doris Day," will be released by Miranda Records in conjunction with the reprise of her 2002 BACK STAGE Bistro Award-winning show, "Secret Love: A Tribute To The True Doris Day," which played to sold-out houses at the former FireBird Cafe. Having sold out on pening night at DANNY'S SKYLIGHT ROOM (346 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-265-8133 - http://www.dannysgrandseapalace.com/) on Monday, August 26th and her scheduled performances on Tuesday, September 3rd at 7:00 pm, and Monday, September 9th at 9:15 pm already nearly sell-outs, the show has been extended with added dates on Mondays, September 16th & 30th, both shows at 9:15 pm. Tedd Firth is the musical director along with David Finck on bass. The show is directed by Scott Barnes. There is a $15.00 cover (1/2 MAC members); $10.00 food & drink minimum.

The CD "Secret Love" features the talents of jazz musicians Tedd Firth on piano, with David Finck on bass, Kenny Washington on drums, Gene Bertoncini on guitar, Scott Kreitzer on saxophone, and Barry Danielian on flugelhorn, with special guest Eric Comstock, duetting with Karen on "I'd Rather Be With You," (a clever listing of Hollywood's Who's Who of the 40's, now with a bonus verse of updated lyrics by Ms. Oberlin). Songs from "Secret Love" include new takes on some of Doris Day's best known hits, like "Que Sera, Sera," and "Secret Love," and rarities due for rediscovery, including the heart-wrenching "While The Music Plays On" and the swinging and playful "Put 'Em In A Box, Tie 'Em With A Ribbon."

Blonde and incandescent, Karen Oberlin captures qualities associated with Doris Day, without any impersonation. Her fascination with Doris Day began when a friend played recordings of the teenage Doris - already a big band singer with the Les Brown Band. Now, after years of exhaustive research into Doris' life and music, Oberlin is also moved by Doris¹ artistic and personal courage.

Ms. Oberlin is also an actress who has appeared professionally in everything from Shakespeare to national commercials and films. Coming from musical family of Upstate New York, Karen was classically trained in piano, flute, cello and voice. She branched out in high school, singing in rock and even punk bands. A graduate of both Hunter College (English Literature) and Circle In The Square's Professional Workshop Broadway Theatre Conservatory, she has performed in theatres nationally and overseas. Her New York credits include playing the role of the original Maureen in the first presentation of "Rent" at New York Theatre Workshop. More visibly she appeared in over 100 performances of the Off-Broadway hit show "Our Sinatra."

Ms. Oberlin received the 2002 BACK STAGE Bistro Award for Outstanding Vocalist Of The Year, based on the first presentation of this show that played at The FireBird Cafe in August of 2001. Her previous cabaret show, "My Standards," played at THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-840-6800) in November of 2000. Both the show and her debut album of the same name garnered praise.

Karen Oberlin's CD "Secret Love: The Music of Doris Day" is available at Footlight and Tower Records, as well as through http://www.CDBaby.com/, http://www.Amazon.com/, or http://www.karenoberlin.com/.
