(Los Angeles)
Fynsworth Alley, the new music label helmed by producer Bruce Kimmel,
creator of Varese Sarabande's critically-acclaimed Spotlight Series,
announces the release of YOU NEVER KNOW, the world premiere cast recording
of a classic Cole Porter score.
Fynsworth
Alley's YOU NEVER KNOW, arranged and orchestrated by Steve Orich,
stays true to the original book manuscript and the play, originally
titled By Candlelight. It features several Porter tunes dropped during
the show's pre-Broadway tryout ("By Candlelight" and "I'm Back in
Circulation"), as well as four of his numbers derived from other sources
("I Happen to Be in Love," "Ridin' High," "Let's Misbehave" and "Let's
Not Talk About Love"). The production heard on Fynsworth Alley's release
was the version performed to great acclaim at the Pasadena Playhouse
in 1991.
YOU NEVER
KNOW features the voices of Kristin Chenoweth, David Garrison, Harry
Groener, Donna McKechnie and Angela Teek re-enacting show, which premiered
on Broadway in 1938. Set in Paris just before the 1929 stock market
crash, the entire production takes place one night at Baron Rommer's
Hotel Ritz penthouse suite. The baron (Groener) and his butler (Garrison)
switch roles so the butler can pursue his lady love (Chenoweth), a
woman he believes is of a much higher social standing. When the woman
turns out to be the servant to a high society figure who's captured
the baron's heart, singing, dancing, confusion and romance ensue.
YOU NEVER
KNOW, is currently available at Fynsworth Alley's Web site (www.FynsworthAlley.com).
Created by theater lovers for theater lovers in September 2000, FynsworthAlley.com
offers new releases exclusively on their Web site for a three-month
period. Other releases include "Emily Skinner" (Emily Skinner) and
"The Stephen Sondheim Album" (various artists). Fynsworth Alley also
produces spoken-word albums, including the Tony Award-winning COPENHAGEN,
the first in their "Plays on Disc" series. COPENHAGEN is the most
recent spoken-word recording of a play since 1984's THE REAL THING
with Glenn Close and Jeremy Irons. Fynsworth Alley's Web site also
