NEW JAMIE deROY &
FRIENDS ALBUM RELEASED TODAY ON PS CLASSICS
PS Classics (http://www.psclassics.com/
), the label dedicated to the heritage of Broadway and American popular
song, has joined forces with prolific cabaret performer and producer
Jamie deRoy (http://www.jamiederoy.com/
) on a new CD, "If I Sing," celebrating songwriters from the worlds
of Broadway, pop, country and cabaret that was released today, November
14th. This new album has a twist: the songwriters are also the performers.
Entitled after the Maltby/Shire song from Closer Than Ever, the album
features 16 songwriters taking on their own material, some of it familiar,
some totally unknown, in new performances and new arrangements. The
theatre composers include some of Broadway's finest, including Stephen
Schwartz, Maury Yeston, Richard Maltby & David Shire, Robert Lopez &
Jeff Marx, Andrew Lippa, Lucy Simon, and Gretchen Cryer & Nancy Ford,
while the pop songwriters include such luminaries as Grammy Award-winners
Julie Gold and Larry Gatlin. Jamie deRoy & friends If I Sing is produced
by Paul Rolnick, Artistic Director is Barry Kleinbort.
Jamie deRoy's Broadway producing credits include Chita
Rivera: The Dancers Life; Say Goodnight, Gracie and this season's
Jay Johnson: The Two and Only. Off-Broadway credits include A.R. Gurney's
Indian Blood, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)
and Terrence McNally's Dedication or The Stuff of Dreams. Known throughout
the cabaret community as "The Fairy Godmother of Cabaret," she has
produced seven CD's in the Jamie deRoy & friends series as well as
The Child in Me: Volume I, 'Tis the Season and Animal Tracks each
earning her MAC Awards for Recording of the Year. She has earned eight
MAC Awards and four Back Stage Bistro Awards.
PS Classics' recent releases include the original cast
albums of Grey Gardens and I Love You Because, the London cast recording
of Sunday in the Park With George, the John Bucchino revue It's Only
Life, and a centennial tribute to Jule Styne in Hollywood. Founded
in 2000 by Tommy Krasker and Philip Chaffin, its diverse catalogue
includes acclaimed cast recordings (including Grammy Award-nominated
albums of Assassins and Nine: The Musical); solo albums by such artists
as Jessica Molaskey, Christine Andreas, Jason Danieley & Marin Mazzie,
