JULIAN YEO: OLD NEW BORROWED BLUE CD RELEASED
Julian Yeo possesses a vintage recording voice that evokes a certain
nostalgia we hear from singers in the past. With renditions that are
undeniably hip and refreshingly unique, his music has often been described
as very 'Woody Allen-ish". Julian was exposed to a wide array of music
while growing up. However, he has always been fascinated by singers
from the 20s to the 50s. His musical influences and styles are reflected
in his debut CD with an eclectic compilation of new compositions and

Perhaps the tile of the CD, "JULIAN YEO: OLD NEW BORROWED
BLUE" sums it up best. There is a certain quality in his voice that
sounds like vintage recordings you hear from a gramophone (OLD); at
times, his voice even evokes a certain nostalgia that we hear in singers
of the past like Fred Astaire, Al Jolson and Rudy VallÃe (BORROWED).
Yet there is something undeniably hip about his renditions that are
refreshingly unique (NEW). The directness in his delivery together
with the manifestation of his love for these songs make this CD distinctively
'Julian Yeo' (BLUE).
An Australian of Asian descent, Julian moved to New
York City to take up a professorial position at Columbia University
a few years ago. His love for singing soon made him a regular at piano
bars around town. Encouraged by friends in the live music scene, Julian
made his debut cabaret performances at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre
to packed audiences in March & April 2006. Ever since, he has been
an exciting addition to the NYC jazz and cabaret scenes.
