INDIAN SINGER RETURNS TO MARTUNI'S
Vandana Bali will appear at for one night only with her show "An Evening
of Standards, Broadway and Pop" in celebration of Valentine's Day and
beyond with a new show on February 17th at 6:30 pm at MARTUNI'S (4 Valencia
Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-241-0205 - http://martunis.citysearch.com/
). Vandana was recently named one of the Top Ten performers of 2006
by the San Francisco Bay Times. Musical director is Victoria Theodore.
Born in India with a voice destined to sing The Great
American Songbook, this cabaret singer can belt out power ballads
effortlessly and move on to Broadway and jazz standards with ease.
Bali grew up in a household where one could hear Indian legend singer
Lata Mangeshkar in one room and Barbra Streisand, The Police, and
the Beatles in the next. She said that most Indian music is based
on stories set to music, and though she is a classically trained vocalist,
(at Skidmore College and after graduation) she has always been drawn
to cabaret.
Bali has a 3-octave range, and uses it with 'power ballads'
not often heard in cabaret shows. She received rave reviews for this
show when it played in New York and at the Plush Room in SF.
Tickets are $29 and are available online at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/8006
