JAZZ GUITAR SUMMIT AT SUGAR LOAF WITH PIZZARELLI, BERTONCINI
& VIGNOLA
Sugarloaf Music (http://www.sugarloafmusic.org/
) presents "Jazz Guitar Summit" featuring Bucky Pizzarelli, Gene Bertoncini
and Frank Vignola on Saturday, March 3rd at 8:00 pm at THE PAVILION
AT THE LYCIAN CENTER (Kings Highway, Sugar Loaf, NY - 845-258-3019 -

). Tickets are $25.
John "Bucky" Pizzarelli is an internationally renowned
man of music. His instrument of choice is the guitar, and his style
is jazz. For more than half a century, "Bucky," as he is affectionately
known, has been a part of the fraternity of musicians who have kept
mainstream and traditional jazz alive. The list of big bands and vocalists
with whom Bucky has performed and recorded reads like a veritable
Who's Who of Jazz. He joined Vaughn Monroe's band while still in high
school and later played with studio bands at the major networks. There
he distinguished himself as one of the best rhythm guitarists in the
business. Not contented with studio work alone, he jammed with and
accompanied the best in the pop and jazz world including George Barnes,
Stephane Grappelli, Slam Stewart, Zoot Sims, Flip Phillips, and his
songs Martin and John Pizzarelli. Dedicated to swing and American
popular song, Bucky is one of the most sought-after guitarists in
the business, and continues to enchant audiences worldwide.
Gene Bertoncini is one of the pre-eminent jazz guitarist
active today. His fluid technique and lyricism have won him international
praise and accolades as the "Segovia of jazz." An eloquent and versatile
improviser, Mr. Bertoncini has been heard with an extraordinary range
of jazz greats, including performances and recordings with Benny Goodman,
Buddy Rich, Wayne Shorter, Hubert Laws and Paul Desmond among others,
as well as such distinguished singers as Tony Bennett, Lena Horne,
Nancy Wilson, Vic Damone and Edye Gorme.
Guitarist Frank Vignola is one of the most highly sought
after acoustic guitarists on the planet. At 22, having honed his chops
in the NYC jazz world, he was contracted by Concord Jazz, for whom
he made four records as a band leader in the early and mid-1990's.
He has toured and recorded with the likes of Bucky Pizzarelli, Les
Paul, Lionel Hampton, Donald Fagen, Queen Latifah, Elton John, Ringo
Starr, Madonna, Dave Grisman, Mark O'Connor and many more. Frank and
his close colleague, master percussionist Joe Ascione joined forces
in 2003 to form the popular act The Frank & Joe Show. They recorded
two successful albums for Hyena Records before independently releasing
this year's Submarine Bus.
ABOUT SUGARLOAF MUSIC: In 1983, there was a grassroots
movement to establish a music series that would fill a gaping hole
in the rural art community, specifically that of jazz and folk music.
Out of that movement evolved the Sugarloaf Music Series. It's been
going strong ever since, hosting music events throughout much of the
county and facilitating free concerts and workshops in the local school
districts. The 2006-2007 season is its most ambitious series ever
augmenting its jazz concerts with Blues, Folk and Latin Jazz. Sugarloaf
Music has presented a veritable Who's Who in jazz and folk music over
the years. Celebrate Sugarloaf Music and 23 years of Jazz and World
Music at the Lycian in Sugar Loaf, NY.
