Marilyn Maye returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street,
NYC - 212-206-0440 -
http://www.metropolitanroom.com/
) with her new show "Super Singer!" with a total of 11 performances
from November 7th through 19th. In this brand new show Maye reinterprets
songs she performed on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" while
weaving in video clips of actual appearances with stories about her
friendship with Carson. She appeared a total of 76 times (the most
by a singer), both in New York and Burbank, and is full of fond recollections
about the Carson family and enterprise.
Performances are Wednesday & Thursday November 7th
& 8th at 7:30 pm, Sunday November 11th at 7:00 & 9:30 pm, Monday
November 12th at 7:00 pm; Thursday through Saturday November 15
through 17 at 7:30 pm, Sunday November 18th 7:00 & 9:30 pm, and
Monday November 19th 7:00 pm.
A Kansas City native, Maye was nominated for a best
new artist Grammy in 1965. As an RCA recording artist she introduced
numerous hits including "Cabaret," "Step to the Rear," "Sherry,"
"Too Late Now," and "If My Friends Could See Me Now" (to name a
few).
Much to her everyone's surprise she absented herself
from New York after playing Michael's Pub in the early 90's. But
in 2006, she turned up at the Cabaret Convention (and played an
SRO one-night stand at The Metropolitan Room).
There is a $30 cover plus a 2-beverage minimum.
