CABARET NEWS - NEW YORK CITY

MICAELA LEON PERFORMS "TRANCE ATLANTIC"
2007 Nightlife Award finalist and MAC nominee (for Best Female Debut) Micaela Leon premiers her new show "Trance Atlantic" at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - http://www.metropolitanroom.com/ ) in four performances on Fridays September 21st & 28th and October 12th & 19th, all shows at 10:00 pm. In "Trance Atlantic" Leon channels the free spirit of three of the 20th century's most adventurous sexual icons, Marlene Dietrich, Josephine Baker and Jane Birkin. She is backed by musical director Uli Geissendoerfer on piano, Benjamin Ickies on accordion and guitar, and Philipp Gutbrod on drums,

Marlene Dietrich, Josephine Baker and Jane Birkin found their greatest success and deepest fulfillment in foreign lands. With physical expressiveness bolstering her sensuous singing, Leon (who came to New York via London from her native Stuttgart last year) looks deep within to understand the impetus to travel, to quest (and perhaps to escape) that she shares with her beautiful and exotic subjects.

Leon offers a globe-trotting song list which includes songs identified with Dietrich: "You've Got That Look," "Hot Voodoo," "The Ruins of Berlin," "Illusions," and "I May Never Go Home Anymore;" Baker: "J'ai deux amours," "Ram Pam Pam," "C'est Lui," and "Harlem on my Mind;" and Birkin: "Quoi," "Je t'aime moi non plus," and "Lollta Go Home."

There is a $20 cover, 2-beverage minimum.
