TONY DESARE DEBUTS AT THE OAK ROOM OF THE ALGONQUIN HOTEL
Acclaimed singer, pianist and songwriter Tony DeSare will perform
selections from his new Top 10 CD, Last First Kiss, at THE ALGONQUIN
OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-840-6800 ext. 171 -
http://www.algonquinhotel.com/
) on Tuesdays through Saturday from March 6th through 17th. Tony will
be joined by legendary guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, in addition to
his sidemen Mike Lee on bass and Brian Czach on drums.
The evening will showcase his passionate and romantic
voice in a program that combines his distinctive songwriting with
a refreshingly sophisticated selection of music. Joining his modern
pop sensibility with classic style, the show features Prince's "Kiss"
and Carole King's "I Feel the Earth Move," along with standards
like "They Can't Take That Away From Me," "You'd Be So Nice To Come
Home To" and "There Will Never Be Another You."
The CD, which debuted at #8 on the Billboard chart
and #5 on the Amazon.com ranking, was recently featured on NPR's
"Weekend Edition Saturday." He has performed his music, including
the theme to the hit documentary film "My Date With Drew," on the
CBS Early Show, NBC Weekend Today and Fox News Channel. Tony will
also be doing a free in-store performance and CD signing at 6:00
PM on Wednesday, March 14 at Barnes & Noble Lincoln Center (1972
Broadway at 66th Street).
One thing that differentiates the ascending career
of Tony DeSare from his contemporaries is his ability as a songwriter,
something which is superbly showcased on Last First Kiss, the follow-up
to his 2005 debut, Want You. This is embodied by a rollicking take
on the timeless standard "Gee Baby, Ain't I Good To You?" and its
modern-day counterpart "I'll Never Have Enough of You," an original
composition by DeSare. It's this same versatile songcraft that lands
DeSare squarely at the head of the class of the modern young crooners.
Singer, pianist and songwriter Tony DeSare has earned
critical acclaim for his recent performances at the legendary jazz
club Birdland, the elegant Cafe Carlyle, Jazz at Lincoln Center
and his new big band show which debuted at the fabled Sands Hotel
in Atlantic City.
Born in Glens Falls, New York, Tony was raised in
a musical family and began singing and playing professionally at
17. By the time Tony started college, he had opened for visiting
headliners and built a large regional following playing to packed
houses. Tony and his band continually sold out shows in clubs and
showcases throughout upstate New York. He took first place in the
"IC Showcase," a college sponsored national battle of the bands
and was a semi-finalist in the MasterCardActs, a national talent
search for college performers.
Shortly after moving to New York City in 1999, Tony
was cast as the star of the long running Off-Broadway musical hit,
Our Sinatra. In the fall of 2002, Tony performed at the Apollo Theater
where he first met jazz guitar icon Bucky Pizzarelli. Since then,
Tony and Bucky have performed numerous times together. Tony was
also featured in New York TV personality Bill Boggs's Off Broadway
show Talk Show Confidential at the John Houseman Theater.
