CAST PARTY CELEBRATES DROWSY CHAPERONE LP RELEASE AT BIRDLAND
On Monday, March 5th at 9:30 pm, Jim Caruso's Cast Party will be celebrating
the release of the limited edition, vinyl 33 RPM long-playing record
of the Grammy-nominated original cast recording of the five-time Tony-winning
hit musical The Drowsy Chaperone at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street,
NYC - 212-581-3080 -
http://www.birdlandjazz.com/
). Many cast and crew members are scheduled to be in attendance, including
Tony-winning book writer and star Bob Martin and Tony-winning composer
Lisa Lambert. There will be a very special copy of the LP given to
a lucky Cast Party audience member.
The re-mastered collector's item released by Ghostlight
Records will mark the first time in nearly twenty years that an
original Broadway cast recording is released in album format. It
will be available for $50 in the Marquis Theatre lobby and on the
Ghostlight Records website. A portion of the proceeds will benefit
The Actors' Fund of America (http://www.actorsfund.org/
).
In the Tony Award-winning show now at the Marquis
Theatre, a theatre maven named Man in Chair (played by Bob Martin)
holds up the record sleeve of his favorite 33-rpm LP cast album
- 1928's The Drowsy Chaperone - and puts a needle on the platter
and shares the experience with the audience. The show comes to life
around him in his dreary studio apartment. The new LP recreates
Man in Chair's experience listening to his cherished cast album
and features added scene dialogue, vintage cover artwork, Broadway
production photographs, lyrics, liner notes and an included bonus
CD of the vinyl record's content.
Jim Caruso's Cast Party, the extreme open-mic night
and impromptu variety show, has been celebrating the Broadway scene
at Birdland for the past four years. Some of the A-Listers seen
at Cast Party include Michael Feinstein, Fiona Apple, Phoebe Snow,
Josh Groban, Betty Comden, Jason Alexander, Linda Lavin, Jon Bon
Jovi, Dave Koz, Christine Ebersole, Stephen Schwartz and Liza Minnelli.
Jim Caruso hosts the evening, pianist Billy Stritch holds court
at the piano, Steve Doyle is on bass, and the audience is invited
to participate in the musical festivities.
There is a $10 cover, $10 food/drink minimum.
