CABARET NEWS - NEW YORK CITY

ANDREW LIPPA RETURNS WITH ASPHALT BEACH AND ASSORTED DIVAS
Following the sold-out evening last December, Andrew Lippa returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - http://www.metropolitanroom.com/ ) with "Andrew Lippa, Asphalt Beach and Assorted Divas" on Monday, February 26th at 9:30 pm. The evening will feature Andrew Lippa at the piano along with some very special women for an evening of his songs old and new. As with the December concert, the evening will culminate with songs from Lippa's newest musical Asphalt Beach, including the unveiling of some previously unheard selections. Joining him will once again be grand divas Ana Gasteyer (Wicked, Saturday Night Live), Carly Jibson (Hairspray) and Megan McGinnis (Little Women, Les Miserables), to be joined by Kate Reinders (Wicked, Gypsy). Asphalt Beach tells the story of what happens to the girls at Our Lady of Suppressed Desire Academy for Rambunctious Young Girls, a Catholic reformatory school in Asphalt Beach, New Jersey.

Andrew Lippa wrote the book, music and lyrics for The Wild Party (Manhattan Theater Club) which won the 2000 Outer Critics Circle Award for best Off-Broadway musical of the season and the 2000 Drama Desk Award for best music. 2004 saw the premiere of Lippa's A Little Princess (book and lyrics by Brian Crawley) at Theatreworks in Palo Alto, CA. In 1999 Lippa contributed three new songs to the Broadway version of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (including "My New Philosophy" for Tony-Award Winner Kristin Chenoweth) and created all new arrangements. He wrote the music and co-wrote the book (with Tom Greenwald) for john & jen, which played in New York City in 1995 at The Lamb's Theater.

His awards include a Grammy nomination, the Gilman/Gonzalez-Falla Theater Foundation Award and ASCAP's Richard Rodgers/New Horizons Award. In addition to Asphalt Beach, Lippa is currently writing the scores (music and lyrics) for Disney Theatrical Productions' The Man in the Ceiling (book by original book author Jules Feiffer) and Jerry Christmas (book by Daniel Goldfarb). Lippa is a graduate of the University of Michigan.

There is a $25 cover plus a two-beverage minimum.
