CABARET NEWS - NEW YORK CITY

ANDREA MARCOVICCI WITH A SALUTE TO THE INCOMPARABLE HILDEGARDE
Andrea Marcovicci will return to the THE ALGONQUIN OAK ROOM (59 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-840-6800 ext. 171 - http://www.algonquinhotel.com/ ) for her 20th Anniversary Season from November 14th through January 13th, 2007. Her new show, "I'm Feeling Like A Million: A Salute to the Incomparable Hildegarde," honors the late, great entertainer called "first lady of the supper clubs" by Eleanor Roosevelt and features musical director Shelly Markham on piano and Jered Egan on bass.

After extensive research into Hildegarde's life and work, Andrea emerges with an intimate and fascinating portrait of a trailblazing entertainer. Using Hildegarde's songs as a framework, Andrea tells the story of a plucky young girl from Milwaukee who became the toast of caf¨ society. After working as a song-plugger for Irving Berlin in New York's famous Tin Pan Alley, Hildegarde became a world-wide sensation after the King of Sweden's much-publicized search for her through Paris. Her best-selling recordings introduced the World War II standards "I'll Be Seeing You" and "Lili Marlene," as well as Rodgers & Hart's "There's A Small Hotel" and Cole Porter's "Wunderbar" (which he wrote for her before it ended up in his masterpiece Kiss Me, Kate.)

Equally adored by soldiers and heads of state, Hildegarde was such a flashy and flamboyant entertainer, Liberace later acknowledged her inspiration. Leaving New York for one of her frequent national tours, she was instantly recognizable in her pink Cadillac. She traveled with 100 pairs of bejeweled gowns and matching gloves.

From the iconic songs Hildegarde introduced and her signature numbers like "Darling, Je Vous Aime Beaucoup," "The Twelfth Street Rag" and "The Last Time I Saw Paris," to little known gems of her early repertoire, Andrea follows the great entertainer from the supper clubs of Paris and London in the 30's to the resurgence of New York cabaret culture in the 70's and 80's. "I'm Feeling Like A Million: A Salute to the Incomparable Hildegarde," explores the quintessential nightclub chanteuse with the same heart and humor as Andrea's famous tributes to so many other golden age composers and performers.

There are performances Tuesday through Saturday at 9:00 pm with late shows on Friday and Saturday at 11:30 pm. The cover charge is $60 on Tuesday through Thursday and $65 for all shows on Friday and Saturday. There is a required $60 prix fixe dinner at 9:00 pm shows from Wednesday through Saturday and a $20 minimum on Tuesday at 9:00 pm and late shows on Friday and Saturday.
