TOTALLY TONIA IN PALM SPRINGS CONCERT
Irwin Rubinsky presents Friday Matinee Cabaret "TOTALLY TONIA - An Afternoon
of Song" starring Continental Chanteuse Tonia Bern-Campbell on Friday,
March 9th at 2:00 pm at THE CATHEDRAL CITY SENIOR CENTER (68727 East
Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs, CA - 760-321-1548). Richard Berent
will be at the piano. There will be refreshments and meet and greet
after show.
Tonia Bern-Campbell sings in 6 languages. She was born
in a 5 star hotel in Belgium, spent three years at the Conservatoire
Royale in Brussels. While a teenager she became a protÁgÁ of Jacques
Brel by singing one of his songs in a contest - he insisted on teaching
her to sing the song "right." She has appeared in films, plays and
nightclubs all over the world and has appeared at Buckingham Palace
twice.
While in London Tonia met her future husband, racing
boat ace Donald Campbell and they were married three weeks later.
He was killed in a racing accident in 1967 (Anthony Hopkins played
him in a movie of their life, "Across the Lake"). Her father's cousin
was Maurice Chevalier who helped her careerwise several times.
She has appeared on many top American variety shows
and in American theaters and clubs. Tonia also had her own radio programme,
"Tonia's World", on Britain's BBC. Her book, "My Speed King: Life
with Donald Campbell" may soon become a film in England.
Tickets are $5 for members, $7 for non-members.
