PEGGY LEE TRIBUTE IN CHICAGO DECEMBER 22ND
The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with CCP
(Chicago Cabaret Professionals - http://www.chicagocabaret.org/
) present "Holiday Fever - A Musical Tribute to Peggy Lee" on Saturday,
December 22nd at 2:00 pm at PRESTON BRADLEY HALL at the CHICAGO CULTURAL
CENTER (78 East Washington Street, Chicago, IL - 1-877-CHICAGO - http//www.877CHICAGO.com/
). Free admission. Many of Chicago's finest jazz and cabaret performers
will perform in this musical tribute to the late jazz singer Peggy Lee.
After Dark Award Winner Bob Moreen directs and performs with other Chicago
greats, including Nan Mason, Susanne Petri, Elizabeth Doyle, Petra Van
Nuis, Paul Marinaro, Allen Nichols and Chicago legend Audrey Morris.
The concert features many of Lee's greatest hits such
as Fever, Winter Weather, Is That All There Is, I Don't Know Enough
About You, Black Coffee, Blues In The Night, Just One Of Those Things
and many of the holiday songs she recorded during her illustrious
career.
Peggy Lee was born Norma Deloris Egstrom in Jamestown,
North Dakota. As a teenager, she changed her name to Peggy Lee and
left home for Los Angeles. In 1942 she had her first hit record with
"Somebody Else is Taking my Place." Within the year, Lee was singing
in movies and by 1952 she was acting opposite stars of the day.
Peggy Lee died in 2002 leaving behind a singing, songwriting
and acting legacy widely recognized as one of the most important musical
influences if the 20th century.
