CABARET AT SAVOR ANNOUNCES FALL SEASON
The fall season at CABARET AT SAVOR (4356 Lindell, St. Louis, MO - 314-531-0220
- http://www.Savor-stl.com/
) features the legendary Marilyn Maye, the favorite singer of some of
our best singers, a veteran of 76 appearances on the Johnny Carson show,
with a trio led by Billy Stritch; Broadway veteran of Annie, Jekyll
and Hyde and Threepenny Opera, the lovely and elegant Anne Kerry Ford
who will perform the songs of Sondheim and Hammerstein; and St. Louis
native Jennifer Sheehan, May graduate of Julliard, Mabel Mercer award
winner, now singing with some of the best in New York, who will debut
a brand new show. They are all coming this fall to the intimate, tables-and-chairs,
New York-style cabaret, on the second floor of the restaurant Savor
in the Central West End in St. Louis.
Jennifer Sheehan launches the new season on Thursday,
September 27th with her new show "This Is What I Dreamed." There aren't
so many beautiful, twenty-two year old singers making the Songbook
a big part of their careers as there used to be, but Jennifer is talented
enough to inspire a new wave. She set her sights on cabaret when she
was thirteen. Inspired by Andrea Marcovicci (at the Grandel), with
whom she sometimes performs at the Algonquin in New York, and taught
in master classes by Barbara Cook, Jennifer is moving in the right
cabaret circles. At Savor, Jennifer takes another step in a singing
career inspired by the by the best songwriters of all time - from
Berlin to Bucchino. In 2006, the Mabel Mercer Foundation presented
Jennifer with the Julie Wilson Award for Cabaret, in recognition of
her talent as an interpreter of songs from the Great American Songbook.
In her show at Savor, Jennifer will be accompanied by James Followel.
Performances are Thursday through Saturday, September 27th through
29th at 8:30 pm and Sunday the 30th at 2:00 pm. $25 cover plus $12
food/drink minimum.
Marilyn Maye, with a trio led by Billy Stritch, is by
common and universal acclaim, one of the best singers of the last
fifty years. Spotted by Steve Allen in the 1950s, who invited her
onto his late-night television show. That led to an RCA recording
contract, seven albums and 34 singles. Maye sang 76 times in Johnny
Carson's late-night show, more than any other singer. For her stirring
New York comeback at NYCs Metropolitan Room last fall, Marilyn re-ignited
her club career to rapturous reviews from a full squadron of the New
York press. Anticipating the demand, the club will be doing an unprecedented
eight shows. Performances are Wednesday & Thursday, October 17th &
18th at 8:00 pm, Friday & Saturday the 19th & 20th at 7:00 and 8:45
pm and Sunday the 21st at 2:00 & 7:00 pm. $30 cover plus $12 minimum.
With a natural grace and elegance, Anne Kerry Ford is
an accomplished actress, and brings those talents to cabaret. Ford
made her Broadway debut as Grace Farrell in Annie, returned in Threepenny
Opera with Sting, and created the role of Margaret in Jekyll and Hyde
opposite John Cullum. "Something Wonderful" is Anne Kerry Ford's tribute
to Stephen Sondheim and his mentor Oscar Hammerstein, which she has
also recorded on CD. Little-known gems as well as beloved classics
penned by two of the most formidable musical theater songwriters of
their respective generations are presented against the background
story of their deep friendship. Anne Kerry Ford ventures from Los
Angeles to make her St. Louis debut at Savor, accompanied by pianist
John Boswell. Performances are Thursday through Saturday November
1st through 3rd at 8:30 pm and Sunday the 4th at 7:00 pm. $30 cover
plus $12 food/drink minimum.
