JOAN CURTO SINGS THE SONGS OF ETHEL MERMAN AND MARY MARTIN
"Brassy, Sassy & Classy, Joan Curto Sings the Songs of Ethel Merman and Mary Martin" will be presented on Fridays & Saturdays, March 16th & 17th, 23rd & 24th, 30th & 31st at DAVENPORT'S (1383 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL - 773-278-1830 - http://www.davenportspianobar.com/ ). Showtime is 8:00 pm. Curto, one of Chicago's most respected cabaret artists, is known for her brassy, sassy, and classy interpretation of the Great American Songbook. For this show, she's chosen the songs of two stars who defined the American musical theater.

From the 1930's through the 1960's, Ethel Merman and Mary Martin reigned on Broadway. Combined, they performed more than 9,000 "knock 'em dead" performances in 25 musicals with the list of composers reading like a Who's Who of Broadway; George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Rogers and Hammerstein, and Irving Berlin, to name a few.

Performing the songs of Merman and Martin gives Curto a showcase for her classic, sultry styling and emotional versatility. She easily glides from the sassy "Leader of a Big Time Band" from Something for the Boys, to the classy "Speak Low" from One Touch of Venus, to Gypsy's brassy Mama Rose in "Everything's Coming' Up Roses." The show is directed by Ron Cohn with musical direction by another Chicago favorite, Beckie Menzie.

Curto, winner of Chicago's After Dark Award for Outstanding Cabaret Artist, has performed at many of the country's top rooms, including New York's Jazz at Lincoln Center, Helen's and Danny's Skylight Room, Chicago's Harris Theater, Maxim's, Park West, The ASCAP and Chicago Humanities Festival Concerts and the Mabel Mercer Foundation's Chicago Cabaret Convention.

The cover is $20 with a 2-drink minimum.
