NEW CABARET VENUE OPENS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE
Singer/songwriter Jay Kerr purchased an old theater in Upstate New York,
on the Vermont border and has begun producing cabaret shows in the brand
new space. THE FORT SALEM THEATER (10 East Broadway, Salem, NY - 518-824-9200
- http://www.fortsalemtheater.com/
) was built in the mid 1800s as a church, but stood empty for several
years until 1972, when it was converted to a theater. The 199 seats
currently in the space were donated from and by Broadway's Helen Hayes
Theater. The performance schedule for 2007 includes a mix of local and
Manhattan cabaret talent.
Jay tells us that the room, which designer David Pedemonti
from APA-Music/Pictures created, is absolutely spectacular (classier
than many an NYC room), and the locals (it is twenty minutes from
Dorset, forty from Saratoga) are duly impressed. Neva Small opened
the room over the 6th of July weekend, and Kerri Lynn Jennings performed
weekend of the 14th. Performances are on Friday & Saturday nights
at 8:00 pm and on Sundays at 2:00 pm. Every performance includes gourmet
coffee and catered desserts. Tickets are $17 per person, which includes
a $5 credit towards the desserts.
