SOPHIA BILIDES IS WINTER WARM AT DANNY'S AND ON CD
Cabaret vocalist Sophia Bilides will present her show, "Winter Warm:
Songs For The Solstice" for her debut at DANNY'S SKYLIGHT ROOM (346
West 46th Street, NYC - 1-212-265-8133 -
http://www.dannysgrandseapalace.com/
) on Friday, December 15th at 7:00 pm and Saturday, December 16th
at 9:30 pm, to celebrate the release of her new CD of the same title.
This spicy mix of jazz, folk, and musical comedy offers hope and humor
for the chill-challenged, daylight-deprived, and holiday-harried,
and has become a popular annual tradition. The songlist for both the
show and the new CD features songs by Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichael,
Burt Bacharach, George Shearing, Michel Legrand, Joni Mitchell, Gordon
Lightfoot, Judy Collins, and more, all with Doug Hammer on piano.
The show and CD explore ways to derive winter warmth,
from the reassuring inevitability of seasonal change and the hope
of spring to the usefulness of cuddling. Options such as hibernation
or heading for warmer climes (imaginary and real) are also weighed,
and even flightless penguins are offered the alternative joy of
singing. Other remedies include fulfilling oneŠs dreams and drawing
strength from memories, while living for today.
Bilides received the 2005 IRNE Award for Best Female
Cabaret Performer from the Independent Reviewers of New England,
and her shows have been listed among Boston's Best Of Cabaret. For
