KIPP ACADEMY YOUTH SING AND SWING JAZZ IN "JAZZ IS A RAINBOW"
A unique ensemble of students from KIPP Academy in Lynn, MA will devote their school vacation week in intensive rehearsals, singing and dancing to the music of "the Great American Jazz Songbook." Under the musical direction of international cabaret and jazz musicians, Lynne Jackson & Mike Palter and the artistic direction of Robb Dimmick, the children - along with acclaimed gospel and jazz vocalist, Doreen Murray - will explore the skills and traditions of scatting, jazz phrasing, history and choreography.

The show, "Jazz is a Rainbow," featuring an original script, traces the contributions of African-American composers and singers to the canon of American jazz. The production, showcasing an outstanding jazz quartet including Jeff Stout and David Murray, was conceived by Dimmick and written by Jackson & Palter.

Performances are Wednesday, November 30th at 7:00 pm, Friday, December 2nd at 3:00 pm & 7:00 pm at KIPP ACADEMY (25 Bessom Street, Lynn, MA) and Sunday, December 4th, 3:00 pm at COHEN HILLEL ACADEMY (6 Academy Road, Marblehead, MA). All performances are open to the public. A special ticket price of $3 for adults; children 13 and under admitted free of charge. For further details call 781-598-1609 or 978-526-8620.

The "Jazz is a Rainbow" project, supported by the New England Foundation for the Arts, Lynn Investing in Neighborhoods Corp., the Mabel Mercer Foundation, KIPP Academy, the Cohen Hillel Academy and private donors, has been described as "life changing" by audiences, young and old, in Rhode Island. The Lynn show will be the debut performance in Massachusetts, preparatory to productions throughout America.
