JULIE WILSON OPENS AT HELEN'S WITH BIRTHDAY SHOW



SPECIAL NOTE:
Julie Wilson has been hospitalized, and has thus been forced to cancel her appearances at HELEN'S RESTAURANT, CABARET & PIANO LOUNGE scheduled for Thursdays through Saturdays at 9:30 pm through October 23rd until further notice. This is Julie's 80th Birthday month, and she was scheduled to also appear in a tribute show to her at the Cabaret Convention, as well as a show with Jeff Harnar at THE CARLYLE later this month. We don't have all the details yet as to these events, and will keep you informed as we receive news.

Julie Wilson's new show "My Favorite Years" opened on Wednesday, September 29th for an exclusive NYC engagement at THE HIDEAWAY ROOM AT HELEN'S (169 Eighth Avenue, NYC - 212-206-0609 - http://www.helensnyc.com/ ) at 9:30 pm, with additional shows scheduled at 9:30 pm for September 30th, and Friday & Saturday, October 1st, 2nd. The show continues on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays, October 7th, 8th, 9th and 14th, 15th, 16th and 22nd, 23rd & 24th. Julie's show celebrates her 80th birthday month. Musical director is Christopher Denny. There is a $25 cover, $15 food/drink minimum. Reservation phone line opens at 4:00 pm. Reservations highly recommended.

The most honored artist in cabaret, Julie Wilson remains a living legend and, with this engagement, celebrating her 80th Birthday month and 66 years in show business. Her remarkable career includes Broadway, films and cabaret. She has performed in every major cabaret in the United States since her return to nightclubs in 1986 after a 10-year hiatus to raise her two sons and care for her aging parents in Omaha, Nebraska.

Her Broadway credits include "Kiss Me Kate," "The Pajama Game," "Kismet," "Jimmy," "Hannah - 1939," and "Legs Diamond" (for which she received a Tony nomination). In London's West End she created the role of Bianca in "Kiss Me Kate," and starred in "South Pacific," "Bet Your Life," and "Bells Are Ringing." She has also appeared in London's major supper clubs.

Many of her albums are considered collector's items and include: "Julie Wilson Sings the Stephen Sondheim Songbook," "The Cole Porter Songbook," "Live at the Russian Tea Room," and "My Old Flame." Her story is told in a recent book by Debra Grace Winer entitled "The Night and the Music" Rosemary Clooney, Barbara Cook and Julie Wilson - Inside the World of Cabaret."

Located in the heart of Chelsea, one of Manhattan's most popular and trendy communities, the newly expanded and newly decorated 70-seat Hideaway Room at Helen's is located inside HELEN'S RESTAURANT, CABARET & PIANO LOUNGE. It features one of the finest state of the art lighting and sound systems designed by Shane Mathews.
