VARLA JEAN MERMAN's UNDER A BIG TOP

FOR TWO SHOWS ONLY AT SYMPHONY SPACE, APRIL 23rd

Varla Jean Merman's newest, most colorful and riddled revue to date, "Varla Jean Merman's Under A Big Top" encompasses circus, carnival, magic, and freak shows, and boasts three new videos in addition to seven new songs. Presented by Archangel Productions, Varla makes her THALIA THEATRE AT SYMPHONY SPACE (Broadway at 95th Street - 212-864-5400 - http://www.symphonyspace.org/ ) debut appearing for two shows only on Friday, April 23rd at 8:30 and 10:30 pm. All Seats $25.

Highlights of this madcap menagerie include: a tribute to the Bearded Lady in Christina Aguliera's BEAUTIFUL, a flashback to Coney Island in the Roaring Twenties with FRANKFURTER SANDWICHES, and who can really resist an operatic tour-de-force medley of Bizet's HABANERA and Cher's GYPSIES, TRAMPS, AND THIEVES?

"Varla Jean Merman's Under A Big Top" is written by Jeffery Roberson and Michael Schiralli, with additional material by Matt Callaway, and music by David Brunetti. Directed by Michael Schiralli, this circus-magic-good time jamboree employs Varla Jean's dizzying vocal range, dazzling costumes by Philip Heckman, and of course a touch of processed cheese!

Varla Jean Merman is the creation of Jeffery Roberson who shared the 2003 Outfest Film Festival "Best Actor" Award and the Aspen HBO Film Festival "Best Actress" Award for his featured performance as Varla in Girls Will Be Girls directed by Richard Day. Last month he appeared in Michael Wilson's new production of The Mystery of Irma Vep at Hartford Stage and has appeared on Broadway in the role of "Mary Sunshine" in the revival of Chicago. Jeffery has also been seen on ABC's All My Children in the recurring role of lady of the evening "Rosemary Chicken".
