New Teen Comedy-Improv Troupe At Dillon's

The new Teen Comedy-Improv Troupe "Trousers & Sauerkraut" will present four performances at DILLON'S (245 West 54th Street, NYC - 212-307-9797 - http://www.dillonslounge.com/ ) on Sundays April 18th, 25th & May 2nd at 6:30 pm & Sunday May 9th at 3:00 pm. The members of the group are students of The Times Square Group's Empowerment Through Improv Workshop led by its creator, Laurence Rothman. The students participate in an after-school workshop conducted at The Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Queens. They enrolled in the workshop last spring, as freshmen and sophomores. There is a cover/donation of $10 and a 2-drink minimum.

The Times Square Group holds high standards for its participants and treats them, as they would be treated in the industry. The improv students learn to trust each other, work as a unit, take chances and create on the spot. Nothing is scripted. While "Fun" is an important aspect of all TSG workshops, it's essential in comedy improv. Each member of Trousers & Sauerkraut brings his/her unique sense of humor to the proceedings. In performance, the troupe is led through different "short-form games," creating different scenarios with specifics, often suggested by the audience. During workshop sessions Larry Rothman leads the troupe. However, during a performance, a student takes on the "leader" position.

After the troupe had performed at their school, TSG decided it was time to take them into the world ‚ first for the community and then into a commercial venue. Last Spring they performed to packed houses at The Esplanade, an assisted living residence on the Upper West Side, and at Don't Tell Mama. During this school year they've performed again at Don't Tell Mama and, by request, at the National Arts Club's annual Christmas party.

Trousers & Sauerkraut is funded in part by a grant from the William T. Grant Foundation.
