Short To Close 36-year Run at the Carlyle

cabaret icon Bobby Short has announced that on New Year's Eve he will
end his 36-year run at the THE CAFE CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street,
NYC - 1-212-744-1600 - http://www.thecarlyle.com/cal.cfm).
At age 79, Mr. Short has no plans to retire and will continue to tour
and perhaps play an occasional date at the THE CAFE CARLYLE. He will
begin his annual spring engagement at the clon on May 4th through
June 26th, and then return for his final regular engagement on October
12th through New Year's Eve, December 31st.
Mr. Short
has been performing at THE CAFE CARLYLE five nights a week, with two
shows on Friday & Saturday nights, for about 20 weeks each year, and
has very nearly becone a NY landmark in his own right. The ninth of
10 children from Danville, IL, Mr. Short was a self-taught piano prodigy
who began performing in local saloons when he was 10 years old.
Mr. Short
suffered a fall last year when visiting Los Angeles, and was hospitalized
briefly, and diagnosed and treated for neuropathy. Except for the
use of a cane, he appears to have recovered completely.
