Carolyn Montgomery In "Akimbo" at THE DUPLEX

Multi Award winning vocalist and comedienne Carolyn Montgomery will premiere her latest production, "Akimbo," at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC - 1-212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/ ) on Sunday, October 24th at 7:00 pm. Akimbo will run for six Sundays (October 24th & 31st and November 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th) all performances at 7:00 pm. Cabaret By the Bay Producer Rick Leonard provides musical and creative direction. "Akimbo" promises the same powerful singing and intelligent comedy that audiences expect from a performance by Montgomery. One definition of akimbo is "in a sharp curve." Akimbo features songs by Jimmy Webb, Rupert Holmes, Billy Joel, and Gerry Dieffenbach (Montgomery always performs two songs by one contemporary songwriter, and Dieffenbach is her choice for Akimbo) to name a few. Ticket price is $15 with a 2-drink minimum. $5 discount for members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE.

Ms. Montgomery's previous show "Reveille" ran from April 2003 through May 2004 in Off-Broadway's St. Clement's Theater, Odette's in New Hope, PA, The Timberline in Seattle, Davenport's in Chicago, Cabaret by the Bay in Fire Island and smaller clubs from Miami Florida to Belfast, Maine. Those performances garnered Montgomery the July 2003 cover of Cabaret Scenes Magazine, a 2004 Backstage Bistro Award for Outstanding Vocalist, a 2004 MAC Award nomination for Outstanding Female Vocalist (Montgomery already has one MAC award to her credit) and Cabaret Hotline's choice for Best Show of 2003. The Reveille CD won a Siegel's CD Pick-of-the-Month Award in March 2004.

Among Montgomery's greatest talents is leading her listeners through a maze of emotions. She'll have them laughing hysterically, and then seamlessly transition to a contemplative or poignant moment. Throughout this rollercoaster ride, all are captivated and charmed by her easy presence and dynamic style. Montgomery is a superb actress, and gets to the heart of her lyrics, comic or serious.
