Debbie Lesser Sings "Just You Just Me" at DANNY'S

Debbie Lesser brings her new cabaret show "Just You Just Me" back to DANNY'S SKYLIGHT ROOM (346 West 46th Street, NYC - 1-212-265-8133 - http://www.dannysgrandseapalace.com/ ) on Tuesday, June 15th at 7:00 pm. The musical director/accompanist is David Brunetti with Steve LaSpina on bass and Bob Einfrank on guitar. Scott Barnes directs. Music charge is $20.00 plus a $10.00 food/drink minimum. (CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE and MAC Members $10.00 music charge)

It is the anticipation of how she will linger lovingly with a note or let it fly that makes her at once both dangerously unpredictable and sweetly intimate. Nestled between lyrical "pops!" and sexy bubbles, the vocalist flavors her delivery with emotional nuances that tell stories of loss, longing and pure exhilaration. Debbie's gift is that she can take a song from big and brassy to achingly vulnerable in the beat of a breath. The entire experience is thoroughly intoxicating. It is this richly textured interpretation that makes the singer a cabaret favorite and her debut album "Let's Misbehave" a wonderland. Hearing Debbie Lesser sing is like opening a bottle of champagne for the first time.

Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Debbie was weaned on a steady diet of music that included everything from 1930s and 1940s swing and jazz to hits of the 1960s. She credits her parents for her passion for great music. Debbie's choice of songs on her CD, "Let's Misbehave" reflects her appreciation of classic and modern American standards. Cole Porter and George Gershwin come together with the likes of Burt Bacharach, Hal David and Stephen Sondheim. Oscar Hammerstein blends magically into her repertoire with Ray Charles and Van Morrison.

Lesser and David Brunetti, her Musical Director of eight years, share similar musical tastes, among them a fondness for the Burt Bacharach era. They pair "Ones Less Bell," with "Since I Fell for You" in this show. Other selections include "I Can Cook Too", "It Was Just One of Those Things", "My Romance", and a personal favorite "It Makes My Love Come Down" a naughty novelty song originally sung by Bessie Smith. The show's title song, "Just You Just Me," was performed this past year at the Mabel Mercer Cabaret Convention at Town Hall, New York.

In addition to packing a musical punch, Lesser has a vivacious personality. Her matter-of-fact patter in the show tends to bring out Lesser's "true colors" in an unexpected way. "I tell it like it is and hope for the best".
