MICHAEL KING TO MAKE NEW YORK DEBUT AT MAMA ROSE'S

U.K.-based singer/songwriter/pianist Michael King will be making his New York (and, in fact, USA) debut on Thursday & Friday, July 8th & 9th at MAMA ROSE'S (219 Second Avenue, NYC - 212-533-0558 - http://www.mamaroses.net/ ) with his new show, MAKIN' HIS MOVE. Having recently performed a sell-out engagement at London's famed PIZZA ON THE PARK (11 Knightsbridge, Hyde Park Corner, London - 020-7235-5273 - http://www.pizzaonthepark.co.uk/ ), Mr. King brings his terrific jazz-pop songs to our shores like a cool breeze on these hot summer nights. Accompanied by Saadi Zain on bass and Damien Nolan on guitar, Michael will be doing material from his recently recorded demo CD as well as songs from his brief but already substantial career. There is a $15.00 cover and that pesky 2-drink minimum.

At age 24, Michael King stands poised on the brink of an exciting career in recording and performing. In addition to writing and performing, Michael also conducts classes in gospel, jazz and r&b at the famed Goldsmith College (part of the University of London); he started teaching there at age 20 (3 months before turning 21) and had just one class of about 20 and now, just over 3 years later, he has 4 classes in technique, harmony and vocal performance with about 80 students. His massive, end-of-year concerts have become the stuff of collegiate legend, attracting audiences of over 600 people.

Born in Bristol, Michael has always had an interest in music, becoming an accomplished pianist by the age of 14. His high school music teacher became aware of his potential when, at the age of 15, he showed up one day with a song he had written, arranged, produced and performed. Soon he was headlining regularly in school concerts. After secondary school he left Bristol for London, where he studied at the prestigious Academy Of Contemporary Music in Guildford. He studied voice with the great British jazz vocalist, IAN SHAW, and has subsequently performed with him. In addition to Pizza On The Park, he has done shows at The Vortex, the 606 Club, and the Battersea Barge.
