Jeremy Davenport
was born in St. Louis, where his father was a trombonist with the
St. Louis Symphony and his mother a music educator. In high school
he trained with musicians from the symphony and upon graduation moved
to New York as a Merit Scholar to study classical trumpet at Manhattan
School of Music, soon switching to jazz studies with with Wynton Marsalis.
Not content in New York, Jeremy followed Marsalis recommendation and
relocated to study at the University of New Orleans with jazz patriarch
Ellis Marsalis.
Restless
and eager to play with a group, Jeremy was invited by Harry Connick,
Jr., to join his big band. After a long association he left the band
to form his own group and soon attracted considerable attention critically
acclaimed. In the end Jeremy's main concern is being an entertainer,
which he readily concedes doesn't go hand in hand with what jazz musicians
are known for. As a trumpeter, he moves from lilting, muted tones
to lively jabs. His voice reflects an era when singers fronted big
bands of the 40s and 50s.
His recordings
include Jeremy Davenport and Maybe In A Dream for Telarc, the second
one featuring a duet with Diana Krall. He has appeared on such Connick
recordings as Blue Light Red Light, When My Heart Finds Christmas
and Come By Me. Jeremy appears regularly on the Food Network s Emeril
Live and was a featured player on the NBC-TV series, Emeril.
