Cy Coleman is a composer whose scores have distinguished Broadway musicals for three decades, the most recent being the much-acclaimed and multi-award-winning musical The Life, which he also co-wrote and co-produced; The Will Rogers Follies (winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score, and the Grammy Award for Best Musical); and City of Angels (winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score). His first complete Broadway musical score was Wildcat, which starred Lucille Ball and introduced one of his most popular songs "Hey Look Me Over." In 1962 Little Me won Mr. Coleman the first of his twelve Tony nominations and introduced "I've Got Your Number" and "Real Live Girl." The smash hit Sweet Charity followed with the showstoppers "Big Spender" and "If My Friends Could See Me Now." In 1986, Charity returned to Broadway, winning new acclaim for Mr. Coleman's score and earning four Tony Awards, including Best Revival. Charity will again return to Broadway in the Spring of 2005 starring Christina Applegate.

The 1970s introduced three more Cy Coleman musicals to Broadway: Seesaw, On The Twentieth Century and I Love My Wife, which won him a Drama Desk Award. Twentieth Century won both a Drama Desk and Tony Award for Best Score. In 1980, Mr. Coleman made his debut as a producer with the musical Barnum, for which he also wrote the score. He was most recently represented on Broadway with the 1998 revival of Little Me starring Martin Short.

Mr. Coleman began his career performing at the piano in Steinway, Town and Carnegie halls between the ages of six and nine. He played clubs in New York in the 1950s and composed many pop standards. He has won three Emmys Awards, for writing Shirley MacLaine's TV specials, and an Academy Award nomination for Sweet Charity. Mr. Coleman has been honored with 13 Grammy Award nominations and star-studded tributes at Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall & Kennedy Center. In 2001, the premier of the new Coleman musical with Dutch collaborators, Grace, opened in Amsterdam for an extended run. In 2002, Cy appeared at Carnegie Hall with Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops.
