NEW
ONE-MAN COHAN SHOW SET FOR MONDAYS AT DANNY'S

Chip
Deffaa's seven-performer musical "The George M. Cohan Revue" played
to sold-out houses at DANNY'S SKYLIGHT ROOM (346 West 46th Street,
NYC - 1-212-265-8133 - http://www.dannysgrandseapalace.com/
) in July and August, and now Mr. Deffaa has written a new nearly
one-man show (there is a secondary, supporting role played by Dave
Warren), "George M. Cohan Tonight - A Vaudeville Life" starring Jonny
Peterson, who starred in the original revue. The completely new show
(not one line of dialogue is the same as the previous revue) opens
at DANNY'S on Monday, September 13th at 7:00 pm, with additional shows
scheduled for Mondays, September 20th & 27th. There is a $15 cover,
$10 food/drink minimum.
Deffaa's previous full-length musical for a cast of
16, "George M. Cohan: In His Own Words," drew SRO crowds and critical
acclaim in its engagement at CHASHAMA THEATRE (135 West 42nd Street,
NYC). That play has now been published by Samuel French Inc. In this
new show, Deffaa will present his latest celebration of Cohan's extraordinarily
rich legacy - what amounts to a full-length theatrical piece in a
cabaret setting. This new show is virtually a one-man show and the
combination of Deffaa's high-spirited writing, Cohan's irresistible
music, and the infectious charm of star Jonny Peterson is hard to
beat.
Jonny Peterson (who's starred in musicals in his native
London, as well as in Sam Mendes' American production of "Cabaret")
will star in "GEORGE M. COHAN TONIGHT: A Vaudeville Life." This is
very nearly a one-man show, with Peterson onstage the whole night.
The show, driven by Cohan's ebullient music, gives a feel for a good
chunk of theatrical history, not just Cohan's own history. Playing
the young man who came to interview Cohan late in life will be Dave
Warren, who's sung with grace and flair at Birdland, Dillon's, Danny's,
and elsewhere.
Deffaa, the ASCAP/Deems Taylor Award-winning author
of eight books (represented by Fifi Oscard/The Fifi Oscard Agency,
NYC), has been studying Cohan's career since boyhood. This is Deffaa's
third, completely different script exploring the Cohan legacy. Not
one line of dialogue is duplicated among the scripts. (And a fourth
script, aimed at younger audiences, will follow next.)
