During his lifetime, playwright-lyricist, Alan Jay Lerner (1918-1986) received every imaginable award in American musical theater. As the lyricist of such astonishing Broadway Musical Theater successes as Brigadoon, My Fair Lady, and Camelot, he was one of its architects, and was ranked among the six greatest toilers in the field. He had a reputation as a master of urbane, highly literate song-writing.

Standards are included from the traditional Broadway musicals: Brigadoon, My Fair Lady, Camelot, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, and MGM movie musicals, Royal Wedding and multi Academy Award winner, Gigi. Composers include Frederick "Fritz" Loewe (his longest running and most successful collaborator), Burton Lane, Kurt Weill, and Charles Strouse. Known for finding refreshing lesser known gems from exquisite scores of ill fated musicals, this show is no exception, Brussell includes selections from: Love Life, Carmelina, and Dance A Little Closer.

Lerner had eight wives, seven composers, astonishing successes and acclaim, yet, in later years, he wrote lyrics for famously troubled productions. The indefatigable Lerner was compelled to keep working until he died in 1986 at the age of 75. Alan Jay Lerner was one of the most articulate and exquisitely passionate lyricists of all time, and a craftsman who reveled in luxury and the high life, who persistently believed in the glamour of Broadway.
