The 80's cult phenomenon about Ozdom's deeply misunderstood Almira Gulch premiered in January 1984. Now, lovingly revived by its creator and star the 20th Anniversary Encore Edition is here to give "Wicked of Oz" fans, Judy Garland fans and fans of jaundiced humor yet another reason to rejoice.

In "Miss Gulch Returns!," Barton~ portrays the hapless piano bar entertainer Fred Barton who one night meets Almira Gulch, the notorious bicycle-riding dog-snatcher from Kansas, who, strange as it sounds, has harbored a secret desire to perform as a torch singer all these years. In addition to his deliriously twisted simultaneous portrayal of this odd pair, Barton is the composer, Iyricist, and author of "Miss Gulch Returns!" Philip Stoehr is the costume designer.

Among his many assignments as music director and arranger for Broadway, Off-Broadway and national tours, Barton was the arranger and music director of the Drama Desk-winning smash hit "Whoop-Dee-Doo" in 1993. Barton made his New York stage debut in 1982 as a co-creator/arranger/performer/pianist of the first edition of the internationally acclaimed revue "Forbidden Broadway," in which he tallied 2,000 performances in New York, Los Angeles and Boston. He premiered "Miss Gulch Returns!" upstairs at Palsson's (now The Triad) as the late-show following "Forbidden Broadway."

"Gulch" was extended numerous times and moved in 1985 to the Duplex in the Village where Barton won a 1985 Back Stage Bistro Award for Musical Comedy Perfommance. Through 1989 the show was presented by Barton in Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Chicago.

The original "cast" recording of "Miss Gulch Returns!" debuted in 1986, and was re-issued in 1999 with two bonus tracks, "Take Me, Please" and "Party Girl." The album continues to sell briskly at Amazon.com, Tower Records, and Barton's own Web site, http://www.fredbarton.com/.
