REPRISING
HER CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED SHOW "TIME AFTER TIME"
Karen
Akers, one of America's most arresting and successful concert and
cabaret stars, will reprise her critically-acclaimed show "Time After
Time" for two weeks, from October 19th through the 31st, at LE JAZZ
AU BAR (41 East 58th Street, NYC - 212-308-9455 - http://www.ticketweb.com/
). After a successful six-week sold-out engagement this spring in
the Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel, Ms. Akers returns. "Time After
Time" features songs from the theatre and the Great American Songbook
by such composers as Stephen Sondheim, Alex North, Cole Porter, Harold
Arlen, Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Lowe, among others. Ms. Akers
will be accompanied on the piano by her Musical Director, Don Rebic.
Performances are Tuesdays through Sundays at 8:00 pm, with an additional
show on Saturdayw at 10:30 pm. There is a $35 cover charge on weeknights
and Sunday and a $50 cover charge on Friday and Saturday evenings.
There is no minimum.
Recipient
of the 2002 Board of Directors Award from MAC (Manhattan Association
of Cabarets & Clubs), Karen Akers has performed throughout the United
States, Europe and the former Soviet Union. She has appeared in many
prestigious venues worldwide from Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl,
Rainbow and Stars, London's Pizza on the Park to three command performances
at the White House. Her concert and cabaret performances are just
a part of Ms. Akers' multi-faceted career, which encompasses theatre,
television, film and recordings.
On Broadway,
Karen made her debut as Luisa in the musical Nine directed by Tommy
Tune for which she won a Theatre World Award as well as a Tony Award
nomination. At the Martin Beck Theatre she was one of the original
stars of the Tony Award-winning musical Grand Hotel (also directed
by Mr. Tune).
This spring,
"If We Only Have Love," a CD compilation of theatre songs, was released
on DRG Records. Previous CD recordings include Feels Like Home, Live
from Rainbow and Stars, Under Paris Skies, Just Imagine, Unchained
Melodies, In a Very Unusual Way, and Presenting Karen Akers. Broadway
cast recordings include Nine and Grand Hotel. She is also heard on
the soundtrack recording of Woody Allen's The Purple Rose of Cairo,
in which she made her cinematic debut.
