The Hills of NJ Are Alive in "Sing-a-Long Sound of Music"

The NEW JERSEY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (One Center Street, Newark, NJ - 888-466-5722 - http://www.njpac.org) presents the interactive "Sing-a-Long Sound of Music" ® the internationally popular audience participation celebration of the beloved movie musical, with a costume contest ® for one performance only in Prudential Hall on Saturday, October 25th, at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $11, $16 and $21.

A worldwide sensation since its premiere in England in 1999, "Sing-a-Long Sound of Music" is a screening of the Oscar-winning 1965 film musical "The Sound of Music" (based on the Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway hit) in all its wide-screen Technicolor glory ® this time, with subtitles for the songs so the entire audience can join in and sing along.

The fun begins with a vocal warm-up led by the evening's host, who also takes the audience through their complimentary "magic moments pack," containing various props to be used at strategic moments throughout the film. The costume competition that follows has become one of the most popular aspects of "Sing-a-Long Sound of Music," for which everyone who attends is invited to dress as a favorite character in the film. Entries in the past have included nuns of both genders, girls (and boys) "in white dresses with blue satin sashes," a plumber (in reference to the film's co-star Christopher Plummer) and the inevitable Lonely Goatherd.

Ever since it was first presented in London's West End at the Prince Charles Cinema in 1999, "Sing-a-Long Sound of Music" has become a cult favorite with audiences who love "The Sound of Music," one of the most popular and successful films ever made, starring Julie Andrews. From Oslo to Melbourne, fans have filled theaters, dressing up and singing along in celebration of the enduring musical. Among the celebrities who have become fans are Sir Elton John, Carrie Fisher, Hugh Grant, Dan Ackroyd., Neil Tennant of The Pet Shop Boys and many more.

New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), located in the heart of an emerging downtown Newark, New Jersey, is the sixth largest performing arts center in the United States. Programming has been made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts and by funds from the National Endowment for the Arts.
