Grammy Awards for music, lyrics and orchestrations. His songs "Up,
Up and Away" "Wichita Lineman" and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix"
are among the most performed songs of the last thirty years. The National
Academy of Songwriters named him the 1993 recipient of their Lifetime
Achievement Award. His songs have been recorded by Glen Campbell,
Richard Harris, The Fifth Dimension, Tony Bennett, Urge Overkill and
R.E.M., among many others.
Marilyn McCoo and Billy
Davis, Jr. have enjoyed 7 Grammy Awards, 15 gold and 3 platinum albums
and starring roles on television and stage and sold-out concerts.
As lead vocalists with the legendary 1960s group The 5th Dimension,
they enjoyed success with countless classics songs, many of which
were written by Mr. Webb. The group's hits include "Up, Up and Away,"
"Stoned Soul Picnic," "Wedding Bell Blues," "One Less Bell to Answer"
and "Aquarius / Let The Sun Shine In." After they left the group,
their song "You Don't Have To Be A Star" hit #1 and won a Grammy Award
for Best R&B Vocal Performance. It was followed by many other chart
topping hits. They starred in the CBS-TV series "The Marilyn McCoo
& Billy Davis, Jr. Show" and headlined in major venues around the
globe. During the 80s, McCoo hosted the nationally syndicated pop
music show "Solid Gold" and appeared on NBC shows "Night Court" and
the soap opera "Days of Our Lives." They have recorded several gospel
albums and were honored to sing for the Pope during one of his recent
visits to this country. Ms. McCoo and Mr. Davis have been married
for over 30 years.
