Sampson's "First Person Singular" Extended at Don't Tell Mama
There
are now two more chances to catch Page Sampson's acclaimed show "First
Person Singular" at DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 1-212-757-0788
- http://www.donttellmama.com/).
Initially presented in May of last year, "First Person Singular" enjoyed
a successful return engagement in November and December. That run
has now been extended, with performances on Saturday, January 11th
at 5:00 pm and Wednesday, January 15th at 6:30 pm. There is a $10
cover and a 2-drink minimum.
Ms. Sampson is once again
teamed with MAC and Bistro Award-winning musical director and arranger
David Maiocco. Skip Ward is featured on bass and guitar. Ms. Sampson
will also welcome a different guest artist at each performance, with
Sue Matsuki appearing on January 11th and Joan Crowe on January 15th.
Karen Mack, 4-time MAC award winner for performance and songwriting,
served as director for the production.
In "First Person Singular"
Ms. Sampson presents a mix of standards and contemporary original
works, deftly mixing comic numbers with ballads. The evening showcases
a wide array of songwriters, including Randy Newman, Johnny Burke
& Jimmy Van Heusen, Dar Williams, Marcy Heisler & Zina Goldrich, Donald
Fagan, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and Tim DiPasqua. Ms. Sampson also performs
an original song of her own, "First Person Singular," which aptly
lends its name for the title and which helped to provide the initial
inspiration for the show (lyrics by Ms. Sampson, music by Ms. Sampson
& Mr. Maiocco).
Page Sampson has been
active in cabaret since 1999. In addition to "First Person Singular,"
she has performed in a number of showcases and revues at Don't Tell
Mama and The Duplex, and as a guest artist for shows such as "Courtney
Loves Comedy" and "The Poole Party." On January 25th she will make
a guest appearance in Tommy Femia's "Judy Garland Live!" Ms. Sampson
was born and raised in Westminster, Massachusetts, a small town 50
miles west of Boston. She attended Middlebury College, and upon graduation
moved to New York City, where she worked for many years in the field
of arts administration. She now lives in Glen Ridge, New Jersey with
her husband, WBGO-FM news anchor Andrew Meyer.
