Spider
Saloff Sings Gershwin at THE ANNENBERG

In
her much anticipated return to the desert, award-winning Chicago jazz
vocalist Spider Saloff brings her three-octave range to the ANNENBERG
THEATER (101 Museum Drive, Palm Springs, CA - 760-325-4490 - http://www.psmuseum.org/)
to deliver gems from the vaults of the venerable and unequaled Brothers
Gershwin, accompanied by the Bill Marx Trio. "The Memory of All That
- Spider Saloff Sings Gershwin" will be performed on Saturday, November
22nd at 8:00 pm. Tickets for members: $36, others $40.
This program
made its debut in a private concert at the Gershwin's New York estate
(among those in attendance was George and Ira's youngest sister Frankie),
and received full endorsement from the family. The event features
many Gershwin favorites as well as rarities given to Saloff by the
Gershwin Estate including the rarely performed "Lonely Boy," cut from
the original score of "Porgy and Bess"; "Ask Me Again," written in
the 1920s (rediscovered in 1983); and "Nashville Nightingale" from
the 1923 Broadway show "Nifties."
Ms. Saloff,
the co-star and co-creator of the internationally syndicated weekly
Public Radio series Words and Music, has received critical acclaim
nationally and internationally. As one of the rare officially sanctioned
acts of the Gershwin Centennial, this concert has been touring the
U.S. since 1996 and headlined the St. Petersburg Gershwin Festival
in Russia (the birthplace of the Gershwin's ancestors).
