THE
STOREFRONT presents NEWER SUNDAYS
First spin off show
Sundays in March at 5:00 pm at THE DUPLEX
Following the success
of NEW MONDAYS Songwriter series, The Storefront was looking for a
way to more prominently feature the work of some of the composers
with whom they had worked. Hence: NEWER SUNDAYS. The idea is that
folks who have already been through the NEW MONDAYS series will be
invited to feature their work in a one-hour format. The series begins
its third incarnation on March 10th, and will run for the following
six weeks at THE DUPLEX CABARET THEATRE (61 Christopher Street, NYC
- 1-212-255-5438 - http://www.theduplex.com/).
All performances will be on Sundays at 5:00 pm. There is a $12 cover,
as well as a 2-drink minimum. No one under twenty-one will be admitted,
and credit cards are not accepted.
The new series kicks for
it's second round on Sunday, March 10th with the songwriting team
of BRIAN FEINSTEIN and DIANA HANSEN-YOUNG, featuring selections from
their up-coming musical projects.
On March 16th, The Storefront
is pleased to welcome noted composer JOSEPH THALKEN, who, among other
projects, is busy preparing a musical version of "Harold and Maude"
with Tom Jones.
To close this second round
of the Newer Sundays, STEVE MARZULLO, composer and musical director,
will present an evening of his music with celebrated guest performers
Amelia De Mayo, Leslie Kritzer, Janet Metz, Julia Murney, Ric Ryder
and Rachael Ylanet on March 30th.
In June of 2001, The Storefront
(http://www.storefronttheatre.com)
launched NEW MONDAYS. The idea was simple: invite both up-and-coming,
as well as prominently established musical legends to debut some of
their new compositions in front of a live audience. What followed
was five months of sold out shows, featuring fifty-seven composers
premiering new work. Participants in the first rounds of NEW MONDAYS
included Henry Krieger, Tom Jones, Charles Strouse, Carol Hall, William
Finn, Frank Wildhorn, Julie Gold, Dick Scanlan, Laurence O'Keefe,
David Friedman, Michael John LaChiusa, Jason Robert Brown, John Wallowitch,
Stephen Schwartz, John Bucchino and Andrew Lippa, as well as many
noted newer composers. Most recently, NEW MONDAYS was awarded the
NYC NIGHTLIFE AWARD, bestowed by the collective New York nightlife
critics.
