Lou's Place: New Cabaret Supper Club to Open in June

LOU'S PLACE AT SHORAH'S (27 Foster Street, Worcester, MA - 508-797-0007) is a new venture and product of a partnership between Kevian Mizrahi, owner of Shorah's Ristorante and Ida Zecco, veteran performer and President of IdaCo, producer of cabaret productions. Zecco has long been looking for a home to stage cabaret on a regular basis and Mizrahi recently expanded his restaurant into neighboring space to accommodate this venture.

The L-shaped addition to Shorah's includes a street - side bar and a separate 50 - seat room, well suited for presenting the art form Zecco describes as music, theater and a bit of stand-up comedy. The room allows for an intimacy between the audience and the performer that is the signature of cabaret.

The venture began with a 6-week, Friday night series of performances beginning April 25th thru May 30th. Randy Zinkus heads up the series on April 25th in "Just Randyć2003." Zecco headlines the room May 2nd with her show "Estro - Gin and Tonic." John O'Neil presents "Enniskillen: An Irishman's Journey Home" on May 9th. Zinkus has a return engagement May 16.th Bob St. Germain performs "Permanent Vacation" on May 23rd. And the series concludes May 30th with Michelle Currie's show "Paint the Town Red ... and a Little Blue." Jim Rice is on keyboard for all performances. The supper club shows are packaged with a dinner and priced at $89.00 per couple or $45.00 per individual. Show-only tickets are $25.00.

In June the concept will be branded LOU'S PLACE and will feature one performer, each week, for a 4-day run scheduled Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons. The new venue will officially open on June 19th through 22nd with IRNE Award Winner, Valerie Sneade.

Zecco believes a key draw is the multi-day run by a single artist each week. She has found that speaking with other cabaret club managers and owners that a multi-day run helps build an audience for cabaret and the artist, increases the chance for critics' reviews and is highly regarded as a plus by performers.

Mizhari, a prominent booster of Worcester's downtown and respected business pm dinnertime jump-starts the restaurant at a time when the operation normally starts to slow down.

LOU'S PLACE AT SHORAH'S will host Boston performers such as Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE) Award winners, Valerie Sneade, John O'Neil and Dane Vannatter as well as Mary Callanan, Brian DeLorenzo, Sarah deLima, Kent French, Ben Sears and Brad Conner, Lyn Jackson and Mike Palter to name a few. Also on the 2003 roster, from New York City, are Manhattan Association of Cabaret (MAC) Award winners Julie Reyburn and Sue Matsuki as well as Tim Sullivan, Marcus Simeone, Jennifer Pace.

There will be a direct mail brochure of scheduled events every 3 months. First mailing to be distributed in mid-May. A website is currently being developed and is also expected to be available by the end of May. LOU'S PLACE AT SHORAH'S website will include, full schedule of events, reservation purchase, directions, contacts, artist links, and more.
