REACH
FOR TOMORROW! LSLF Gala Benefit Concert

"Reach
for Tomorrow!" - a tomorrow when we will have conquered the dreaded
disease of leukemia. And "Reach for Tomorrow" is the theme of this
year's gala benefit concert for the LAURI STRAUSS LEUKEMIA FOUNDATION
(http://www.lslf.org/)
at CARNEGIE HALL (154 West 57th Street, NYC - CarnegieCharge 1-212-247-7800)
to be held on November 3rd. The foundation is now in its 14th year
of funding medical research into leukemia and allied cancers. A roster
of great volunteer stars from musical theater and the concert stage,
television, comedy and jazz will appear in the gala.
Heading the
parade will be Skitch Henderson, conducting The New York Pops and
sharing host privileges with Midge Woolsey, Channel 13/WQXR personality.
Special feature of the evening will be a musical salute to Broadway's
and Hollywood's John Kander and Fred Ebb, creators of such hit shows
as CHICAGO, CABARET, KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN and ZORBA, and of the
song, "New York, New York." The segment will be produced by Barry
Levitt and will star such Broadway, television and cabaret performers
as the electrifying singer-dancer-actress Chita Rivera, MAMMA MIA's
Karen Mason, Carol Woods of FOLLIES and SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE, and returning
from last year's Lyrics and Lyricists salute, Terri Klausner, Mark
McVey, Ty Stephens, Deborah Tranelli and Sal Viviano.
Among our
other generous volunteer stars:
- Lainie
Kazan, recording star, television, film and stage actress, featured
in the motion picture "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and the CBS-TV series,
"My Big Fat Greek Life"
- Freddie Roman, with his hilarious views of the world around us
- Maureen McGovern, international concert and recording star
- The Pops All-Stars, featuring jazz legends Peter Appleyard on vibraharp
and Bucky Pizzarelli on guitar
- Pianist Richard Hyung Joo, playing selections from his #1 Classical
Billy Joel CD, and Jon Weber, jazz piano sensation from the 92nd Street
Y's Summer Jazz Festival
- Excerpts from LSLF's community fund raisers.
Judy Collins,
who has been an untiring supporter of the foundation and whose efforts
led to our first benefit gala fourteen years ago, will be honored
with the foundation's Lifetime Spirit Award.
As with all
live performances, this roster is, of course, subject to change.
