BARB JUNGR TO PERFORM AT JOE'S PUB IN JUNE

British Diva Returns to Joe's Pub for Two Nights in June

Barb Jungr, Britain's most famous cabaret star, returns to New York City on June 20th & 21st at 7:30 pm to perform "Barb Jungr: Sings Bob Dylan and Jacques Brel" at JOE'S PUB (425 Lafayette Street, NYC - Tele-Charge: 1-212-239-6200 - Box Office: 212-539-8778 - http://www.joespub.com/). Tickets cost $25.

Ms. Jungr grabbed the attention of the American music cognoscenti with the US release from Linn Records in 2002 of her internationally acclaimed CDs: "Every Grain of Sand," her Bob Dylan tour-de-force, and "Chanson: The Space In Between," selections from Jacques Brel, Leo Ferre and Elvis Costello. A new CD, "Waterloo Sunset," is due from Linn Records in late 2003.

A sultry alto, Ms. Jungr combines the precise, controlled jazz phrasing of Peggy Lee with the blues flavor of Nina Simone. Both genres complement perfectly her smoky vocals and love of the supper club atmosphere. Adding Dylan and Brel to the mix has been her greatest challenge and her greatest success. For Jungr, knitting these two singer-songwriters' work is a natural extension of her life's work: To follow the threads of great music, strip the songs to their bare essences, then rebuild them note by emotional note.

Born and raised in England, a child of immigrant Czechoslovakian and German parents, Jungr was exposed to a smorgasbord of musical influences, including high opera, Gilbert & Sullivan, Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald. This varied array led Jungr to study the violin in grade school, form a jazz band in college, sing with a New Wave trio and then a folk-blues duo before striking out on her own in the early 1990s.

Jungr returns to Joe's Pub this June by popular demand after her sold-out performance at the club in January and her wildly successful three-week show at the Flea Theater in Soho last fall. Since coming to America, she has captivated the most discerning music fans and critics alike. Accolades for her U.S. performances poured in from the New York Times, New York Magazine, the New York Post, Back Stage, Variety, and the Village Voice, to name a few.

Jungr has created a niche of her own with a uniquely personal style tinged with humor. Accompanied by piano and string bass, she dazzles listeners with her exceptional voice, eclectic repertoire and exquisite charm.
