JAZZ VOCALISTS BRING HARMONY TO MILWAUKEE AREA ARTS CENTER

THE SHARON LYNNE WILSON CENTER FOR THE ARTS (198th and Capitol Drive, Brookfield, Wisconsin - 262-781-9520 - http://www.wilson-center.com/) in collaboration with Stepping Out Productions (http://www.arcfile.com/sop/), celebrates the completion of the first full year of cabaret performances with "Harmony," featuring Ellen Winters and Sara Kuehl, on Friday and Saturday, May 16th & 17th at 8:00 pm in the intimate cabaret atmosphere of the Studio Theater. These two fine jazz vocalists will offer the music of America's greatest composers on a journey through their 15-year friendship from idealistic college students to today. Tickets for both performances are $20 full price, $18 for seniors and students, and $16 for groups of 10 or more. Seating will be done cabaret style, with tables and chairs. Full bar and light snack service will be available beginning one hour prior to each show.

Ellen Winters studied vocal jazz with esteemed director, pianist, and Grammy-nominated arranger, Phil Mattson and has earned three DownBeat Magazine Student Music Awards. While performing and touring for the last ten years, Ellen has had the opportunity to back up artists like Don Shelton and Bonnie Herman of the Singers Unlimited, Darmon Meader of New York Voices, and internationally renowned jazz saxophonist Richie Cole. Ellen also performed at the 1995 Montreux and North Seas Jazz Festivals in Europe and the 1996 Monterey Jazz Festival Sea Cruise and has taught vocal jazz workshops throughout the U.S. and Canada. For more information on Ellen, see http://www.ellenwinters.com/.

Sara Kuehl has been involved with the performing arts for more than 25 years. She developed her passion for vocal jazz while singing with the Counterpointers, a Downbeat Magazine award winning ensemble; and has been lucky enough to share the stage with Janis Siegel, Bobby McFerrin, and Dianne Reeves. She made her New York cabaret debut in 1998, and continued to appear at Danny's Skylight Cabaret as a solo artist for several years. Sara has also studied with multiple MAC-award winner, Phillip Officer, and sung as a member of the Juilliard Choral Union. In 2001, she joined long-time friend Ellen Winters in their well-received show, "Harmony," and the two have continued to tour with the show. For more information on Sara, see http://www.sarakuehl.com/.

"Harmony" chronicles the lives of these two women and the bond of friendship that connects them, even as life, work, love and family have taken them on different paths. This show celebrates the gift of friendship and how harmony can be found in every aspect of your life - but most importantly, it shows that it can't be made alone.

The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts provides a new performance venue for regional and touring arts groups, and classroom space for arts education. The Wilson Center for the Arts' overall goal is to encourage new audiences for the arts, fulfilling its mission by focusing on artistic and educational opportunities. Since its opening in January 2002, more than 80,000 people have enjoyed performances and availed themselves of arts education opportunities. The Wilson Center for the Arts is nestled in Brookfield's Mitchell Park, just south of 198th and Capitol Drive.
