Kent French Sings "Its Spring Again" at SCULLERS
Following
up on last year's IRNE-nominated show, "The Four Loves," Kent French
returns to SCULLERS JAZZ CLUB (400 Soldiers Field Road, Allston, MA
- 617-562-4111 - http://www.scullersjazz.com/)
on Tuesday, May 20th at 8:00 pm with his new show, "Its Spring Again."
Joining Kent are Ron Roy on piano, Chris Rathbun on bass and Tom O'Malley
on percussion. There is an $18 cover charge.
A favorite performer on
Boston area stages, Kent offers a warm and personal show that celebrates
the season of romance, rebirth and renewal. "It's Spring Again" includes
standards from the American Songbook, as well as songs from singer-songwriters,
new musicals and pop songs. "I love springtime, even though it takes
a while to get started here in New England," says Kent. "But once
it does, it's amazing the changes it creates in us. This show is all
about celebrating the season in song."
Since 1999, Kent French
has become a familiar face to New England theatergoers. In addition
to his cabaret career, he has performed in over twenty theater productions,
including the world premiere of "Marty" at the Huntington Theatre
Company, SpeakEasy's "The Wild Party," Boston Theatre Works' "The
Laramie Project," Commonwealth Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night," and
American Stage Festival's "A Wonderful Life." Kent has also worked
on other productions at the Huntington, understudying roles in "Observe
the Sons of Ulster Marching Towards the Somme," "Hedda Gabbler," and
"James Joyce's The Dead."
Trained as a classical
singer, Kent sang for seven seasons with the chorus of the Boston
Symphony Orchestra. In 1997, he began turning his attention to the
American Songbook, focusing on songs from the 20s, 30s and 40s. In
1998, Kent was named a fellow at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's
Cabaret Symposium, where he studied with Margaret Whiting and Julie
Wilson. Since then, he has performed his solo shows at the Cinedrome
Nightclub at Foxwoods Casino, Eighty-Eights in New York, the Blacksmith
House in Cambridge, the French Library in Boston and for many private
events around New England.
Ron Roy, an accompanist
well known for his versatile expressiveness, leads the trio that accompanies
Kent. Ron has worked as an arranger, pianist and musical director
for many productions nationally and internationally, including "Crazy
for You," "Forever Plaid," "Forbidden Broadway," "Forbidden Hollywood,"
and "Disappearing Act." He has appeared in cabaret and concert halls
across the U.S.
