Curto Returns to Davenport's In a New Show

favorite, Joan Curto returns to DAVENPORT'S Piano Bar & Cabaret (1383

in a new cabaret show, "Love is a Simple Thing," every Friday in April
at 8:00 pm. Show dates are April 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th. This show
takes a happy look at love and features selections by Cole Porter,
Doris Fisher, Irving Berlin, Dietz and Schwartz, Jerome Kern, Lew
Brown as well as the title song by Arthur Siegel. Ron Cohn directs
the show and musical direction is provided by another Chicago favorite
Dan Stetzel. Cover charge is $ 20 with a 2-drink minimum.
"Love is a Simple Thing"
looks at the happy side of love and the laughter that accompanies
it. Taking the lead will be songs from the Great American Songbook
such as Porters "Always True to You in My Fashion," Berlin's "How
Deep is the Ocean" and Kern/Hammerstein's "Bill." Interspersed will
be songs by contemporary composers Francesca Blumenthal, Amanda McBroom
and Beth Nielsen Chapman.
Joan Curto is quickly
establishing herself as a top cabaret performer in Chicago. She performs
regularly at Davenports Cabaret and Piano Bar. Her last solo show
"Unexpressed?" was named one of the top ten shows in Chicago for 2001.
Joan is part of the trio of performers who brought the highly praised
"Across a Crowded Room," a celebration of the music of Richard Rodgers
to Chicago last year. This show continues to tour the country in 2003
to rave reviews. She has performed in several Chicago Humanities concerts
as well as both Mabel Mercer Chicago Cabaret Conventions. She made
her New York debut last year and plans to release her debut CD later
this year.
