MARY FOSTER CONKLIN IS "CAUGHT IN THE TRANCE"

Singing The Music of Matt Dennis at DANNY'S in July

Jazz vocalist Mary Foster Conklin returns with her quartet to DANNY'S SKYLIGHT ROOM (342 West 46th Street, NYC - 1-212-265-8133 - http://www.dannysgrandseapalace.com/) in July for four nights, Wednesdays and Thursdays, July 9th, 10th, 23rd & 24th - all shows are at 9:15 pm. Arrangements are by Jeffrey Klitz and John DiMartino, who will also be at the piano as Music Director; other musicians include Martin Wind on bass, Tony Romano on guitar and Ron Vincent and Joe Ascione on drums. Cover charge is $15 with a $10 food/drink minimum.

CAUGHT IN THE TRANCE is a tribute to the late great singer, songwriter and pianist Matt Dennis (1914-2002), who was hired by band leader Tommy Dorsey in the 1940s as an arranger/composer and later had a full career of his own playing the country's top supper clubs and appearing on film and television. His songs "Angel Eyes" and "The Night We Called It a Day" were recorded by Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and countless others. Besides his early hits with the Dorsey band, the evening will include later lesser-known compositions with lyrics by Tom Adair, Earl Brent, Ted Steele, Jerry Gladstone, and Bobby Troup.

Mary Foster Conklin received the 1999 MAC Award for Jazz Vocalist, and is a two-time Bistro Award winner for Outstanding Vocalist and Outstanding Recording. Her debut recording "Crazy Eyes" was listed as one of the ten best CDs of 1998 by IN THEATRE Magazine. Her second CD, "You'd Be Paradise," was released in Fall 2001 to critical acclaim.
